Western Sahara in the rain!

26th Sep 2022

A desert under water. It is not often that this happens! Especially in the Western Sahara. The past few weeks have seen unusual and heavy rains in an otherwise waterless domain. The picture is not a great one but gives you the idea – snatched through the window of a 4wd near Aousserd/Oued Jenna last week.

This is particularly pertinent to our Mammal Watching trip there in November as the little body of evidence available suggests that the desert mammals tend to much more active after rains and therefore more visible. So we can expect to have a lively time there in November. There is hardly a better year to visit we think! During the next few weeks too the desert will have quite an abundance of flowering plants.
