THROUGH THE LENS TOURS
Wildlife and Landscape Photography Tour with Greentours to Borneo
Mount Kinabalu’s spectacular landscapes are world-famous for the diversity of both flora and fauna. The fantastically weird urns of the various Pitcher Plants on show will be a major attraction, as will birds such as Whitehead’s Broadbill and Whitehead’s Trogon, Crimson-headed Partridge and rare Black-breasted Fruithunter. Nearby Poring Hot Springs is home to huge Birdwings, the stunning Kallima Leaf Butterfly, miniature Dragontail Swallowtails and beautiful Lantern Bugs. We’ll see Rafflesias with incredible flowers three feet across and a wonderful diversity of Orchids and Rhododendrons. Boat trips along narrow channels off the Kinabatangan River will give us give us up-close Maroon Langurs, six species of Hornbill, the endangered Storm’s Stork and Buffy Fish Owl and fantastic opportunities to capture great Proboscis Monkey images. Danum Valley, one of the world’s oldest and most magnificent rainforests is a wildlife photographers dream. Here the cameras will be busy with Bornean Gibbons, Red Giant Flying Squirrels and Bearded Pigs whilst Rajah Brooke’s Birdwings and Malay Red Harlequin are just part of a pageant of butterflies. This is a superb place to see richly coloured Trogons and Pittas, Rhinoceros Hornbills, Western Tarsiers, strange Bornean Bristleheads, Flying Lizards...and of course Orang-utans, though we’ll never have a better chance to photograph these charismatic apes than on our visit to Sepilok!
Through the Lens Tours: The emphasis of these tours will be on having the time to take good photographs; so more time in the field at fewer localities, with fewer hotels, and less time spent travelling. Our photography team of Chris Gardner (see his images on www.glassfrogphoto.com), Başak Gardner and Tony Beck (www.tonybeck.ca) will guide you and offer expert tuition in the field on subjects such as composition, lighting or camera use, or indeed whatever you’d like to ask them. These are tours that offer great opportunities for experienced photographers and beginners alike to work on macro photography of butterflies, insects and flowers, bird and mammal photography, and plain old magnificent scenery shots!
