Miguel de Sequeira
Professor Miguel Pinto da Silva Menezes de Sequeira (we’ll stick to Miguel….) was assistant professor and herbarium curator at the University of Trás-os-Montes and Alto Douro for ten years before completing his doctorate in Botany in 2004 at the University of Madeira. He has been a professor at the University of Madeira for more than two decades and is responsible for several courses in the fields of Botany and Ecology and is a coordinator of several research projects. For eighteen years Miguel worked on the Flora Iberica project and is the author of several new species for the Madeiran archipelago flora. At various times he has been the President of the Life Sciences Center of the University of Madeira, Director of the Forestry and Nature Conservation Forests services and President of the Association of Friends of the Botanical Garden of Madeira. As you’ll guess from this Miguel’s breadth of knowledge is amazing, but just as much it is his boundless energy and enthusiasm that makes him such great company on a tour.
