An outstanding field botanist, Owen Mountford combines research on UK wetlands (especially his beloved Fenland) with an ongoing commitment to nature conservation in Romania. He leads wetland ecology research at the Centre for Ecology and Hydrology (Wallingford) and takes a particular interest in schemes for habitat restoration and conservation on farmland. Besides having an extraordinary botanical knowledge, Owen's enthusiasm and sociability make him an excellent tour leader. His interests and knowledge extend to all aspects of the natural world. Owen was instrumental in designing our Alpine Garden Society tour to Romania in 2008, and he will also return for another foray into the Canadian Backwoods, where he began making botanical surveys for Parks Canada as a teenager, part of the basis for previous successful tours to Ontario.
