Nadia Bystriakova was born in St Petersburg, Russia and obtained her first degree from St Petersburg Forest University. Her professional career path has been defined by passion for the natural world and a desire to better understand trends and patterns of global biodiversity. She obtained a PhD from the University of Cambridge working at the Department of Plant Sciences on biogeography, ecology and evolution of tree ferns. Nadia’s research interests range from botany and entomology to quantitative ecology, biogeography and conservation biology, and her fieldwork experience covers Montenegro, Ukraine, Russia, China and New Zealand.
